The Gymnasium Interlaken is the smallest prep-school in the Canton of Berne and lies in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. Our school draws its students from the Saanenland, the Simmen- and Kandertal valleys, from the region around the lakes of Thun and Brienz and, of course, also from the Oberhasli and the Lütschinen valleys.

The school provides the students with a very broad and thorough general education. There is also a range of subjects that the students can choose from: at the end of the freshman year they choose a major subject and at the end of the sophomore year a minor subject; moreover students are offered a wide selection of optional classes and special weeks.

It is our goal to promote and support our students in becoming independent and responsible young people before they receive the nationally recognized prep-school diploma (Matura). Our school has a student body of about 250 (taught in twelve to fourteen classes) and a teaching staff of about 30.

Students have 37 45-minute periods a week on average, including optional subjects. The Gymnasium Interlaken is the only such school in Switzerland to operate on a four-day basis; this is due to the fact that the school draws its students from relatively remote areas.
