Extracurricular eventsTeam Building CampThe year starts with a team building camp where students and teachers learn to know each other. Sports-dayThe yearly sports day celebrates team spirit and fair play. Sometimes the programme is geared towards individual performance (triathlons, octathlons) or to more relaxed group activities. In the afternoon of each sports day there is always a tournament of football, volleyball or basketball. Volleyball-eventSince 1988 the volleyball-event has been successfully organised at our school. The event lasts from the early evening to the early morning and has 25 mixed teams compete with each other. There are teams of current students, alumni and teachers. Each volleyball night has a motto and the teams disguise accordingly. At midnight some teams present little sketches and there’s an award ceremony for best costumes. Floorball tournamentJust like the volleyball-night this tournament also figures regularly on our school’s agenda. On the Friday afternoon around December 6 our students compete against each other in all male or all female class teams. The students themselves are responsible for the registration and organisation of the event; the necessary referees are also recruited by students from among fellow students. The PE teachers provide the facilities and the gear, they act as advisers if need be. Floorball-quarta-tournamentEvery january, the classes in the quarta-grade in our school and in different other schools compete with each other. This allows students from outside to have a first impression of the atmosphere in our school. Business-weekDuring one week in the autumn of the junior year the students are made to experience the business world at first hand. The Bernese Chambers of Commerce organises a weekly course for our students where experienced professionals from the most varied business backgrounds offer insights into the complexities of the economy. These insights are provided both theoretically and practically via lectures, company visits or the popular computer game in which the students manage their own company. Information fairDuring a particular evening each autumn our school offers ample information to younger students, parents and local teachers of primary and secundary schools who are interested in the education at a prep-school. The principal presents the particular profile of our school, whereas the teachers design info booths about their different subjects. Young Enterprise Switzerland (YES)The Gymnasium Interlaken has been participating in YES for five years. It is a project where students found their own enterprise and develop and sell their own products under almost real-life-conditions. The mini enterprises of Interlaken students participate regularly in national and international competitions and have been successful in places like Malta and Moscow. Special project weekA range of special projects to be explored during one full week in spring, summer or fall is offered to the juniors and seniors. Trips to major European cities are offered as well as the production of a school play, social work in different communities, ski camps or courses in photography, mediterranean cuisine or photoshop classes. The students attend one such week per school year. | ![]() | |||
