Those students who want to learn another official language of our country and the language of our southern neighbor Italy should choose Italian as their major subject. Knowing Italian helps when travelling to the south of Switzerland. It also contributes to a better understanding of the Italian speaking part of our country; moreover it is of particular importance in the job world, esp. when applying for government jobs, as a solid knowledge of Italian is usually required.

In fact, it’s not the language alone which is taught. Italian as a major subject also deals with issues of European Arts and Culture. Italy is home to a range of important sights and works of art which have marked occidental culture - just think of the Renaissance. But even today cultural life is still marked by Italian art, literature, film, music (not only opera) and design. All of these issues will be covered.

Furthermore the subject can also be chosen by those who feel attracted to the Italian way of life (customs, feasts, gastronomy).
